Stop axing walker mode for Uber Eats, and return orders to bikers!

The Issue

I am not sure how many people are aware of this, but as of late, Uber Eats has been quietly axing us walkers. As of April 8th, 2022, referenced by the email I have screenshotted and sent as part of the petition, Uber Eats has implemented a program meant to make us walkers switch to other modes of delivery. By doing this, Uber is impacting a large amount of us couriers who either can't afford to have a bike or vehicle, or people who don't have the space to store one. But it is not only us walkers that have been affected by the changes. Bikers too have been experiencing a SEVERE lack of orders. The worst part is, unlike us walkers who actually got somewhat of a warning, the bikers didn't get ANY warning. How could Uber stab the backs of brave souls who literally risk their lives by running the risk of bike thieves and facing the full brunt of city traffic every single day to deliver food?

I assure you all that this is no mere glitch. An article made by GripRoom  in early April (https://www.griproom.com/fun/uber-eats-effectively-lays-off-thousands-of-walkers#:~:text=In%20the%20past%2C%20an%20Uber,shrank%20to%20about%20500%20meter ) literally states that "the delivery radius for walkers has shrank even further. It's now about 300 meters, which is ridiculously low." For most of us, that is quite impossible to pull off AND make a decent living wage from it. The same article states that cyclists are getting next to nothing.  Even worse is how according to the article, moderators on forums meant to discuss Uber Eats are "now deleting posts with people asking why they aren't getting any pings." How's anyone supposed to get any information with that going on?

We can't let Uber win. The more of us switch to bicycle and fall for their schemes of reduced price e-bikes, the more they will push until Walker Mode is completely eradicated. As the days go by too, cars are continuing to get priority over deliveries over bikers.  It is clear right now that our unwillingness to fight back is harming us. We walkers and bikers must stand together and let Uber know that we refuse to back down. We must let Uber know that should they decide to continue their push on eradicating Walker mode, and continue to cut orders to cyclists, we will NOT stand for this. Should you all stand behind me, we will make Uber feel financial repercussions in revenge for their actions against us Walker and biker couriers.

They deserve these repercussions, because they are oppressing good, hardworking citizens, and for WHAT? I am fortunate enough to not really need Uber to support myself, but I know plenty others who do indeed rely on Uber to make a living. It's not hard to imagine that some of these people may not have any other choice. It's very easy to see this too among the numbers of walkers and bikers complaining about the lack of orders.  People are legitimately scared they'll be put out onto the streets from the recent changes. But does Uber care about any of them? No! They won't even give us an explanation as to WHY they're phasing out walker mode, and cutting orders from cyclists!

I give Uber an ultimatum of a month to restore both the walker and biker modes to the way it was before April 8th. If they don't, I ask you all, my fellow walker and biker couriers, as well as customers who order under a mile, to switch to Doordash. Doordash does actually have a walker mode that offers deliveries under one mile, you just have to contact support to have it set up. It is also possible to order on there from restaurants a bit nearer to you than you'd normally order from. I ask you all to stand behind me in this petition. We Uber walkers may about to be axed, and car deliveries may be getting priority over orders over the bikers, but we cannot let them take us down without a fight. We have already learned that our willingness to comply will get us nowhere, it can't hurt for us to try to do something. It is here where we must make our final stand and leave a memory upon the support folk that took our livelihoods away from us.
