Stop AUHSD from the Banning of Books in our School Libraries

The Issue

Signing this petition helps youth in the AUHSD district voice their needs to keep all books available to students in our libraries.

Books are often seen as a reflection of our society, each providing a unique perspective and offering different viewpoints. This diversity in creative thought is essential for fostering an environment of robust intellectual growth and freedom. Sadly, in recent times, there has been an alarming increase in books being banned, thereby limiting our access to knowledge and diverse thoughts. According to the American Library Association, 566 books were challenged or banned in 2020 alone. This not only undermines the intent of the author but also reflects a harsh inhibition on the free exchange of ideas and the suppression of intellectual freedom. Instead of resorting to bans, we should encourage open discussions, critical thinking, and exploration of diverse viewpoints. This will not only respect the artistic freedom of the authors but also enrich our intellectual prowess as a society. Join us in standing against the banning of books and in promoting intellectual freedom. Sign the petition today.
