In the vibrant neighborhoods of Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, Herne Bay, Freemans Bay, and their surrounding areas, residents are facing an unjust predicament. Imagine the frustration of being penalized for parking in your own driveway. This is the reality for many in these areas as Auckland Transport relentlessly issues parking tickets to residents parked in their own driveways. This blanket approach by Auckland Transport is not only unjustified but also deeply unfair and necessitates an immediate review.

We 100% agree that footpaths should be left completely clear and unobstructed.

This petition focuses on properties that have a generous front verge-carpark that a vehicle can be parked on and still leave ample room and clearance from the footpath and curb.

The congestion in these neighborhoods is already an overwhelming issue. The struggle to find a parking spot is real and constant. By prohibiting parking in their own driveways, Auckland Transport adds an unnecessary strain on the limited parking available. This decision forces residents to park on the streets instead, further exacerbating the parking crisis.

Auckland is known for being a bustling, thriving city full of life and movement, but the inability for residents to utilize their own driveways disrupts their daily lives. Residents should have the right to park in their own driveways without fear of receiving a ticket, especially in a city where space is at such a premium.

The current policy imposed by Auckland Transport needs a thorough reconsideration. We urge the authorities to recognize the specific challenges faced by residents in these areas and amend the parking policies to allow driveway parking without penalty. By signing this petition, you are supporting fairness and common sense in our community's parking regulations.

Our proposal would be as follows:

The verge-driveway should be available to use as long as there is minimum 1800mm available footpath clearance.  The rear of the vehicle must not be over the road side curb at all.

Each household purchases a yearly AT $80 parking voucher that ensures the park is only available to the intended home and user.

We want to be able to use this verge/driveway to:
Wash our vehicles, use as parking for the residents, drop offs and pick ups, and normal day to day use.

To us this seems like a sensible, common sense approach that is fair to all parties
