The Issue

I live directly near the proposed site for a 25-acre solar farm in Rifle, and I'm deeply concerned about the long-term effects this project might have on our community. Our area is known for its prime agricultural land, which has been nurtured and cultivated by families for decades.   This isn't just about protecting a landscape; it’s about preserving our way of life.

The proposed solar farm threatens not only the fertile grounds that support local agriculture but also disrupts the habitat of numerous migratory birds and animals that call this land home. The rich biodiversity of Rifle is essential to the ecological health of our region and makes it a beautiful place to live and raise a family.

Solar energy is an essential part of our future, but it should not come at the expense of valuable agricultural land and environmental preservation. There are alternative locations better suited for renewable energy development – places that do not threaten existing ecosystems, nor the livelihood of farmers.

According to studies, agricultural lands are decreasing at an alarming rate globally. Converting prime farmland into solar farms accelerates this issue and jeopardizes food security. Protecting agricultural land must be a priority if we are to ensure food supply for the future.

By signing this petition, you will help urge local authorities to reconsider the location of this solar farm. Let’s advocate for sustainable development that respects both our need for renewable energy and the preservation of our agricultural heritage. Please sign this petition and help protect the land that sustains us. Together, we can find a path that ensures both progress and preservation.
