My Weimaraner, Lola, was under the care of Banfield Pet Hospital since 2017, and was never diagnosed with a life threatening tumor, even though I maintained her wellness exams, shots and nail trimming etc.  She had multiple symptoms, all of which were ignored. After taking her to another Vet, who immediately diagnosed her tumor, just from touching her belly, she went into emergency surgery.  The tumor was pushing against all her internal organs, and at the risk of rupturing.  The tumor ended up weighing 20 pounds - 20 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!  The Vet stated this does not happen overnight and any exam was "Veterinary 101." This dog was suffering a while.

I spoke with the Chief of Staff at Banfield, and was unable to obtain answers or a true concern or an apology.  She, herself, stated the Doctors are spread thin, and that day she saw 35 animals.  How much time is actually being spent on treatment and care in an 8 hour day, when one Doctor sees 35 animals!?!?!?!

Apparently, there is no legal recourse for the treatment or pain and suffering of an animal, because they are considered "property."  Imagine, a living, breathing animal, who can feel happiness and pain, and does not have a voice of their own, just property - insignificant.  Something that can easily be disposed of. Animals only have their Human's voice to fight for them, and the Human has to rely on their Veterinarian for the best possible care. 

Humans need to be confident Veterinarians will be held responsible and liable when something happens to their beloved animal, due to negligence.  And right now, there are no laws allowing Humans to hold Veterinarians accountable, for their animals, their "property."  Animals are not property - and we need to change that!!!!!!
