Every time I see those animated videos depicting the horrific conditions of beagle factories, it brings me to tears. Though this petition isn't about a personal experience, the emotional pain I feel for these innocent animals drives me to act. Beagles are amongst the most trusting and loving breeds of dogs, which people use to their advantage. They do not deserve the fate of a laboratory test subject.

Many people might not be aware, but laboratories across the world use a large number of beagles for testing due to their gentle demeanor and willingness to trust humans. This trust is a cruel irony as it is taken advantage of in the most inhumane ways. Out of the approximately 59,000 dogs used in lab testing in the United States each year, beagles are favored due to their docile nature.

Scientific advancements now provide viable alternatives to animal testing. Methods such as in vitro testing, computer modeling, and microdosing in humans have shown promising results in ensuring humane and cruelty-free research. It is vital that we press our government and pharmaceutical companies to pivot towards these alternative approaches.

Animal welfare organizations have continuously reported the distressing conditions these animals are kept in. Legislative change is crucial. Laws like the Humane Cosmetics Act and the Animal Welfare Act need to be strengthened and expanded to cover more extensive protections for lab animals, especially dogs.
