STOP ANIMAL TESTING

STOP ANIMAL TESTING

The Issue

My name is Margo, I'm 14 and have always been an animal lover. For one of my birthdays I even asked for animal shelter gifts, so that I could take anything I got and donate it to important shelters that need our help. While I am only a teenager, and it might not seem like a have a big voice, I know that animals need help.

Animal testing is defined as "the use of non-human animals in experiments that seek to control the variables that affect the behavior or biological system under study."

Animal testing comes in many forms and is extremely cruel. The most common animals tested on are

  • Dogs (specifically smaller breeds like beagles)
  • Rabbits
  • Bunnies
  • Cats
  • Mice
  • Rats

In an article, testers were asked why they chose to use bunnies and rabbits, the response was- "they are relatively inexpensive to purchase and maintain and they reproduce quickly. Additionally rabbits are generally considered easy to handle and have a low stress response to procedures making them ideal candidates for testing."

Animals are forced to endure pain and horrible conditions. Testing includes being fed poisonous toxins, injections, and tubes shoved down their throats.
