I'm reaching out to you because of a concern that is deeply personal to me and affects countless innocent lives. At Mt. San Antonio College, some animals are subjected to testing that confines them to small cages, causing immense emotional and physical stress. It's well-documented that animals react adversely to such environments; they are not meant to be confined in this way.

Animal testing poses significant ethical questions. Renowned experts and research assert that keeping animals in restrictive settings is unnatural and harmful. Studies have shown that about 75% of animals in labs endure significant distress. We all know how it feels to be stressed in confined spaces, and for these animals, it's continuous. We must change this.

It's crucial to recognize that there are effective alternatives to animal testing. Advanced technological solutions such as in vitro testing, computer modeling, and human-patient simulators can replace the need for live animals. These methods are often more reliable, cost-effective, and ethical. In fact, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports that up to 95% of drugs that test safe and effective in animals fail in human trials, which questions the efficiency of animal testing altogether.

Our goal is not to halt scientific progress but to advance it with compassion and innovation. By ending animal testing at Mt. San Antonio College, we can set a precedent for other institutions. Our petition calls upon the administration to adopt humane practices that respect all living beings while pursuing academic excellence.
