As an animal lover, it deeply disturbs me to purchase products and services that often involve some form of animal testing. While I cherish my pets and ensure they live happy and healthy lives, countless other animals endure unspeakable suffering in testing laboratories. These animals, including dogs and other vertebrates, live in constant pain, isolation, and fear. They are subjected to inhumane conditions, with their natural needs neglected and their well-being compromised.

Animal testing is a practice that harms millions of animals annually. They are exposed to harsh chemicals, undergo painful procedures, and live in environments that are far from their natural habitats. While there are existing laws protecting vertebrate animals from abuse in domestic settings, these protections do not extend to laboratory testing. This discrepancy leaves animals unprotected against the cruelty of human force in testing environments.

It is imperative that we overhaul the existing legislation to extend protection to all vertebrate animals, not just pets. Many countries have successfully transitioned away from animal testing by adopting alternative research methods. These include in vitro testing, computer modeling, and advanced imaging techniques—methods that are not only more humane but often more reliable and cost-effective.
