Stop Animal Death's in Boarding Facilities

Stop Animal Death's in Boarding Facilities
The Issue
On, September 2, 2023, my family used a new boarding facility for our family dogs. After only 24 hours, the owner of the facility called to inform me that my dog Benji had been found dead. There was little to no information provided and upon an autopsy completion, his death was discovered to be of heat stroke. A completely preventable situation. Though we are heartbroken over our beloved Benji's death, this tragedy has opened my eyes to the flaws in our animal boarding facilities.
Boarding facilities are not required to take ownership of their mistakes that result in animal death on the premises. Boarding facilities do not have to report the occurrence of an on-site death to any local animal authorities or law enforcement. There is no system that shows violations of boarding facilities as well as deaths. The general public read reviews that these businesses can easily control the narrative of. Nothing can replace the loss of our sweet Benji but his death will not be disregarded as if it never happened. I am asking for support in developing a system for reporting animal boarding facility deaths that is public record. Along with making these tragedies public knowledge, it will also hold boarding facilities accountable for their actions with an appropriate fine.
My hope is that not only will this remind boarding facilities that they are being entrusted with a loved family member but make them more aware of the animals in their care. I hope Benji's death will be remembered by creating change for the future of our animal boarding community. Thank you for your support.
