The Issue
Title:
Petition to End Animal Cruelty in Kurdistan
Introduction:
Dear Kurdish Regional Government in Iraq (KRG)
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the alarming instances of animal cruelty within the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq. As advocates for animal welfare, we believe it is crucial to address and rectify these issues to ensure the well-being of our fellow living beings.
Current Situation:
In Erbil, a disturbing trend has emerged, marked by numerous incidents of collecting and harming stray dogs, with the intention of transferring them to the Hawler shelter, only to leave them to die out of cold, hunger and thirst as they are not being fed at all. instead, they feed off of each other’s deceased corpses as they die each passing day! The methods currently used to transfer stray dogs into the shelter are disturbing, inhumane, aggressive, violent and bizarre. This has been recorded and kept a record of by numerous people around the city of Erbil.
Legal Framework:
There needs to be an existing animal welfare laws due to lack thereof in KRG. We emphasise the importance of enforcing and strengthening these laws.
Call to Action:
We, the voice of the voiceless, state our demand for the KRG to take immediate and effective action against animal cruelty. the changes we are advocating for, such as stricter regulations, improved enforcement, and increased penalties for offenders must be implemented as soon as possible.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, we urge the Kurdish Regional Government to prioritise the well-being of animals within its jurisdiction. By signing this petition, we express our collective voice demanding swift and decisive action against animal cruelty.
Closing:
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. We believe that, together, we can make a significant impact and create a safer, more compassionate environment for animals in Kurdistan.
