I am an animal lover, deeply disturbed and outraged by the recent reports of egregious cruelty against animals perpetrated by members of the Parsa Police. Innocent chicks were subjected to unspeakable suffering as they were burned alive in a horrifying act of cruelty. This barbaric and inhumane treatment is not only morally reprehensible but also goes against the principles of decency and compassion that should be upheld by law enforcement agencies.

In Nepal, where this incident took place, there are laws protecting animals from such cruel acts (Animal Welfare Act 2017). Yet, these laws seem to be ignored when it comes to their implementation. According to World Animal Protection's global index on animal protection, Nepal ranks 78 out of 100 countries (World Animal Protection, 2020). This indicates that there is a significant room for improvement.

We urge the local authorities in Parsa and national government officials to investigate this matter thoroughly and bring those responsible for such heinous acts to justice. We also call upon them to enforce stricter regulations on animal welfare within law enforcement agencies across Nepal.
