We witnessed the heart-wrenching sight of animals being killed without any mercy at Universiti Utara Malaysia. Last year, cats and kittens were poisoned and this year, puppies have been targeted (as we suspect that the death of these puppies is an act of cruelty by someone). These animals are part of our community and their lives matter as much as ours do.

Animal cruelty is a serious issue that needs immediate attention. According to the Malaysian Animal Welfare Act 2015, it is illegal to cause unnecessary pain or suffering to animals in Malaysia (Malaysian Animal Welfare Act 2015). Yet, these cruel acts continue to occur within our university grounds.

Universiti Utara Malaysia is located in Sintok, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah - an area abundant with wildlife. The university should be a safe haven for these creatures who share our environment but instead they are met with violence and death.

We need your help to put an end to this cruelty. We urge the management of Universiti Utara Malaysia and local authorities in Sintok, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah to take immediate action against those responsible for these heinous acts and implement proper animal management practices that respect all life forms.
