In honor of DALE MOUNTAIN who resided on the Dutchess County Fair board for many years. This is a petition to demand an end to animal cruelty at the agricultural fair! 

 

Dale, who is sadly no longer here to speak for the animals, would be ashamed of what has been happening at the fair since her passing. 

 

Dale was a warrior for the rights of animals. She inspired in me my deep commitment to helping rescue dogs and did so much good in the world. 

 

So why are these egregious acts of cruelty returning?! Why are we teaching our young children that it’s ok to use animals for our entertainment. 

 

The world is currently fighting for advancements in all kinds of animal protection issues but here we are in our own small town, seemingly proud of going backwards. 

 

It’s cruel to use live mice in the Color Game. As a child the Color Game was my favorite activity at the fair. But since they switched to using a live mouse I absolutely refuse to play and I will not keep quiet about this abuse. 

 

It’s cruel to give live fish as prizes. I’m ashamed at seeing fish in tiny bags of water that heat up in the hot sun, only to be given to families who may not know how to care for them and will be surprised when they die quickly upon getting them home.

 

It’s cruel to have pony rides in the fair ride area where loud noises and music scare them, and the heat is relentless.

 

If you are as outraged by these acts of cruelty as I am, let’s honor Dale’s legacy by making sure the animals in our community have a voice.
