The Issue

Archive of Our Own (AO3) is a platform known for supporting creative freedom and transformative works. However, this freedom should not extend to content that depicts the sexual abuse of children, even in fictional form.

Currently, AO3 permits explicit sexual content involving minors, which normalizes and enables the consumption of child abuse fantasies under the guise of fiction. While no real children are directly harmed in the creation of these works, their existence contributes to a culture that desensitizes audiences to child exploitation, fosters dangerous fetishes, and indirectly endangers real children by creating spaces where this content is treated as acceptable or even celebrated.

This petition calls on the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) to take a firm ethical stance: not allow works that depict sexual acts involving minors, regardless of disclaimers or fictional status. Free speech is a fundamental right, but it is not without responsibility, especially when the content in question echoes real-world trauma and abuse.

Let’s draw the line at child sexual abuse. Fiction or not, it should never be appropriate for it to be consumed as entertainment.
