For too long, animals have suffered because they are being sold in pet shops. ALL animals need loving homes, not just dogs and cats and while it’s great that pet shops are starting to not sell them, they need to stop selling small animals too. Pet shops either don’t care or are uneducated in proper care for small animals and because of this, they can’t care for them properly in store. They keep them in small areas, with little airflow, mix the sexes so a lot of females go to their new homes pregnant, and don’t feed them the proper diet. In addition to the shops not being educated in proper care, they are then not able to advise new owners on proper care, which results in small animals continuing to be kept in small cages and being fed inadequate diets. Unfortunately, this means that the small animals then die, horrible deaths and the cycle continues. We need to stop the abuse before it starts, and that can be helped by banning pet shops from selling small animals.
