The Issue

What’s the definition of a pet mill? There is no standard definition but the definition that I use is that “pet mills are large, filthy, inhuman high-volume breeding facilities where pets are bred in large numbers and are kept in extremely small, overcrowded cages to save money. They are then sold to pet stores. And due to poor sanitation, overbreeding and lack of veterinary care, these animals almost always had health issues which then caused families to be overwhelmed and heartbroken as many of these animals don’t live as long as they should do to the poor conditions.”

If you can’t buy from a pet store, then where do you get them from? Rescues and shelters are packed with animals who need loving homes as they are often extremely scared and traumatized.

If you buy an animal from a pet store, you are supporting them by giving them more money and the space to “replace” the animals that have been sold. It’s a constant endless cycle that needs to stop. There are so many articles about how animals shouldn’t be sold at pet stores and how pet mills should stop.
