Dear Supporter

Thank you so much to the 75000 of you who have signed.

We have received reports that those who are booked onto the flight are now being locked in their rooms. Placing people in isolation is usually what happens when they are about to transfer people  to the plane.

Earlier today I received information that transfer will commence at 7pm tonight. We have been told that the flight was originally to leave  from Stansted airport but that they will now be driven hundreds of miles from the removal centres which are near Heathrow and Gatwick, where they are currently held and that they will be taken to Doncaster Sheffield airport.  It is likely that the plane will leave tomorrow  morning. However we know from past experience, often they switch airport at the last minute.

When they are taken the process is to cuff them to escorts , they are transferred in the night in vans and once on the plane they are cuffed to two  private security guards and chained from the waist down. Last year people still did not even know what airport they were going to, it was only from fleeting sights of road signs they were able to guess. Before they are  transferred to the plane the  basic phones they were issued in detention when their personal phones were taken away, are also taken. So they are cut off other than if the escort allows them to speak to their lawyer on their phone.  The process is designed to be as disorienting, isolating and frightening as possible.

We have just learned that one collective legal challenge in the high court has been lost but they are currently appealing.

During the course of this afternoon several Labour MPs have bern raising concerns in Parliament including the point that the leaked Windrush lessons learned report recommends that people who came to the UK as children should not be deported.

Last year around half of those booked on the charter flight deportation to Jamaica were taken off at the last minute through appeals and judicial review applications , one actually taken off the plane physically just before take off.

These examples show that there are many people who should never have been booked on these deportation  flights in the first place.

Please continue to share this petition, to use social media to raise awaremess and  follow updates on Twitter where we are using the hashtag #Jamaica50.

Also a reminder of the protest on Whitehall opposite Downing Street which commenced at 6pm.this evening and is expected to continue until late this evening.

This inhumane treatment and injustice towards the British Caribbean community must end.  Please continue to stand with us.

Regards

Zita
