Florida NOT All AboardEast Coast, FL, United States
Jul 17, 2014
Thank you all for all you have done to raise awareness and voice your concerns regarding the detrimental impact All Aboard Florida would have on our community. I wanted to make sure you knew that I am continuing to fight against this project, meeting with the U.S. Transportation Secretary and U.S. Coast Guard officials to raise our community's serious concerns with AAF, and take this opportunity to provide an update on my efforts. Below please find an article regarding the request I made this week that the Coast Guard host local hearings to hear directly from our community on the impact this project would have on maritime safety, commerce, and traffic.
Thank you again for raising your collective voices to express your concerns and opposition to All Aboard Florida!
Sincerely,
Patrick Murphy
Member of Congress

TCPalm: Murphy: Coast Guard should hold hearings on All Aboard Florida
By: Arnie Rosenberg
July 15, 2014
After meeting last week with Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Korn — who commands Coast Guard operations in the Southeast United States and the Caribbean — to discuss his opposition to All Aboard Florida and the “serious maritime concerns” of many in the community, Murphy urged the Coast Guard to hold hearings on the impact of increased closings of railroad bridges over the St. Lucie and Loxahatchee rivers.
All Aboard Florida plans high-speed passenger-rail service through the Treasure Coast and northern Palm Beach County by 2017. It would run 16 round trips daily as part of Miami-to-Orlando service.
Recreational and commercial boaters, as well as Tequesta Fire-Rescue, are concerned about 32 additional daily bridge closings causing backups on the water and about wear-and-tear on bridges that are nearly 100 years old.
“It is imperative that business owners, boaters and emergency personnel have their concerns heard so that the Coast Guard may evaluate how best to ensure the continued navigability of our waterways,” Murphy, D-Jupiter, said in a letter to Korn.
The Coast Guard did not respond to a request for comment.
