For preservation breeders, our top focus is protecting our breed. To see the French Bulldog skyrocket to the #1 dog in AKC is heartbreaking. This jump is because of backyard breeders, who focus on quantity/not quality in order to take advantage of uneducated buyers. The dogs are suffering due to the lack of ethical breeding. AKC has turned a blind eye for years as preservation breeders and parent clubs have approached with concerns about their unscrupulous registration practices. Dogs well outside of the standard are being given registration further damaging the health and well-being of the breed. AKC has proven time and again they care more about the money than about protecting the breeds they have been charged with stewarding. Please help us let AKC know that we are not the minority and we demand they do more to protect not only the French Bulldog breed but many others than are being decimated by unethical breeders not adhering to the standard. It is time we demand the AKC stop registering French Bulldogs that do not meet the standard that has been set by the parent club. This includes all non-standard colors and coat types.
