25 Sept 2014
A few weeks ago, I was wondering if I could ever win this petition. News articles have shown that this law will very likely be legalised, like in several US states. I had almost no hope.
However, on the night of Thursday the 24th of September 2014, everything changed. As I opened my email-now for non-related purposes, I noticed a particular email in my mailbox. I opened the email and clicked a link. It linked to a news article stating that the ag-gag law has been defeated. I felt relief for the first time in a few months. The news article was only published a few hours beforehand (news article can be found here: http://www.smh.com.au/environment/animals/win-for-animal-activists-and-media-but-aggag-fight-goes-on-20140924-3gi01.html)
Now, no longer will consumers be at risk of being hidden from where their food comes from. No longer will animal rights activists who are doing their job for compassion be at risk of being prosecuted. And most importantly, no more animals will be allowed to suffer behind closed doors.
And this is cannot be done without you, the 740 compassionate people around the world who have came to this petition and gave up two minutes of their time to make a difference. And I will like to say an even bigger thank-you to those who shared this petition with their friends, or donated money to advertise the petition to other people.
But we must keep fighting. Winning this petition is only the beginning. Currently, the governments of other states are also planning to introduce Ag-gag. And we have other issues such as banning the battery cage so that the 11 million hens that only have the space of an A4 piece of paper can experience freedom. Please join my Facebook page so you can sign more petitions on other issues. Together, we can win those too.
