Consultations - due this week

Hi all,
A quick email to foreground Adelaide City Council's own consultation on MotoGP, which closes this Wednesday.
1. City Council Consultation on MotoGP. This one has a community focus. 
Council wants to understand how the proposal could affect people who live, work, run businesses, visit and use the city and Park Lands, and what you want Council to consider when responding to the State Government. 
 
Consultation closes 11.59pm, Wednesday 16 September 2026

State government is essentially waging war on our public spaces, including our parks and squares. 
When it’s widely understood that cities around the world, even poorer ones, have transformed themselves almost exclusively by a public spaces policy over the last 60 or so years, we have to ask why it’s not good enough for Adelaide; especially when we have a clear lead with our William Light layout which is not a historic sacred cow, but a leading edge design, still, and an inspiration to other cities, even in Australia.

We are losing the free use and benefit of our spaces, whether it is Festival Plaza, Possum and John E Brown Park, or the Eastern Park Lands, with extremely questionable advantage for the average person.
 
Whether its street pavements, laneways, malls, squares or parks, it’s not rocket science: visitors spend almost all their time in public spaces, not buildings. More of them, and more attractive ones, equals more visitors. More visitors, buzzier streets and a stronger local economy.
 
But in Adelaide we are seeing state government effectively gift the best of them away to giant corporations to profit from, with significant costs to the city and to the local economy that can even outweigh any gains at all.
 
They don’t seem to realise that they are arguably kicking away the economic underpinning of the city, the natural attractiveness that is the gift that keeps on giving, that should be giving us a constant visitor flow against the troughs and peaks of big and costly events.
