Animal cruelty is a crime. And it should be.

But should pet owners get that much power that they can attack people and then defend themselves in the name of animal cruelty?

In my neighbourhood, at least 8 people out of 10 have a dog or some kind of pet. Mostly dogs.

But what most people don't do is let their dogs roam the street freely without getting them vaccinated.

The incident occurred 15 days ago when the neighbour's dog bit my 4-year-old brother when he was cycling.

The owner there stood still and didn't help him while he was crying.

When we confronted them, they lied first and when we showed the CCTV footage, the first thing they said was, "You can kill my dog if you want."

This dog has a history of violence and has bitten several other people before and the dog isn't licensed or registered, but every time the owner's solution is to kill their pet.

The matter was closed on a serious note that if the dog will be outside, the owner has to be there.

Not even 15 days have passed and today the dog attacked me.

It bite me while the owner didn't lock him, didn't have a leash, and neither was he with him.

When the issue was raised again, the owner's words were the same, "You can kill my dog if you want."

Without the discussion moving anywhere, we decided to take the police's help as the owner declined to do anything about the situation.

But another neighbour (whose dogs aren't registered as well) supported him by saying that he is an advocate and can complain about animal cruelty if we try to do anything about this case.

He said that even if we file a complaint, he has a right to an animal cruelty case.

Animal cruelty is a good law that protects those who can't speak for themselves, and we should protect our fur friends and animals.

But is it okay to abuse the law for the wrong reasons?

Is it okay for people to use the law and animals for their own benefit?

Now, there isn't anything we can do as the dog owner will freely unleash his dog as he did in previous cases and a knowledgeable but unethical advocate is there to support his actions.

I am starting this petition to let people know that they can't abuse animals, laws, or humans for their entertainment.
