Why this petition matters

Started by Herlinda Samaniego

Inmates at California State Prison, Sacramento are being abused by correctional officers on a daily basis. More than others, inmates with mental health and physical disabilities. Previously a suit was filed and a federal judge ruled that this prison specifically along with a few others would be required To use chest cameras to prevent this abuse from continuing. Unfortunately these officers have the ability to turn them off and back on when they feel necessary. Claiming “confidential purposes” in order to avoid anything that may show proof of their abuse of power. Even us as civilians have been subject to this when providing reports of abuse to them. They turn off the cameras so that they have no proof of our reports in person. We also file on paper and follow a long grueling process of appeals continuously being rejected and told that we are wrong by CDCR. We are asking that this petition be signed in support of our loved ones and our families to make a change and discontinue the ongoing abuse of power against these men and women who are someone’s family. We have resorted to reaching out to the following resources for help also:

UPDATE**
My husband was set up by the correctional officers just days ago at this facility to be beaten and stabbed by other inmates. He was on the phone with me at the time that they were setting it all up and yelling about what they were going to do to him. They don’t care. They did nothing to stop it, of course because it was their doing to begin with. A sort of “gladiator” style entertainment for them. It has all since been reported to the appropriate authorities and under investigation but they now have my husband sitting in the “hole” as if it were him that did something wrong. My husband was prepared mentally for what they were going to do to him. Thankfully three people called it in to the facility and they had no choice but to stop it from happening unfortunately they have done nothing to the ones that were going to do it or had anything to do with it in any manner at all. Instead it’s my husband being punished for his life being at risk. This treatment and cruelty needs to stop. These officers have no regard whatsoever for human life. The cell they have him in is filthy, all of his belongings that he had in his cell were taken away including his food, towel, and hygiene necessities. His entire 8th amendment right has been violated.
The eighth amendment provides prisoners with limited rights of protection against cruel and unusual punishment during the course of confinement. These rights extend to the existence of humane living conditions, adequate medical care, and protection from violence by other inmates.
