The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order, that allowed 690 buses daily to be diverted along Montpelier Road and Terrace, Upper North Street and Regent Hill, is to be quashed on 27 July 2023. We have been wholly successful in achieving what we set out to and that's thanks to:
 all 776 of you who signed this petition;
 the 72 of you who commented on your reasons for signing;
 the 60 backers on my Crowd Justice site;
 the around 40 residents along the diversion route who consistently and repeatedly notified Council officers of the noise, light, vibration, air and other environmental pollution, the loss of privacy, the reduction in road safety, the destruction of our street surfaces and infrastructure, and the litter, being experienced from 690 buses daily passing our front doors, and suggested solutions, like opening Western Road using temporary traffic lights;
 Regency ward and Brighton electors who elected a listening leadership of Brighton & Hove City Council;
 Our electorate MP, Caroline Lucas, who on many occasions managed to extract information from Council officers that we could not and who suggested we approach the Environmental Law Foundation, who got an initial pro bono legal opinion and set me up with an amazing legal 'team';
 My amazing legal 'team', who did everything humanly possible to achieve this wholly successful outcome of the quashed TTRO, while attempting to keep my litigation costs as low as possible. They faced stern opposition in the Council officers who said 'no' to every attempt to speed things up, delayed responses to over the time limit so follow-up was needed, forbade genuine offers to meet in an attempt to achieve this wholly successful outcome much earlier, and the final straw was telling us on 11 July 2023 that “...the diversion route will revert to Upper North Street once it reopens following completion of the repair works.” At that time, we had been told that the repair works would be completed and the Street would open on 14 July! I thought such tactics by a public body were beyond belief, but I'm afraid not.
Thanks to all and every one of you. We can now start to enjoy our homes again free from noise, vibration, and light pollution and in privacy, breath fresh air, open our windows to let in the summer, sleep at night, relax in our gardens, book maintenance on our homes, and those with front doors opening directly onto the pavement can open them without fear of a vehicle whipping past their noses.
