Stop 16 Storey Tower Block Development in North Finchley

Stop 16 Storey Tower Block Development in North Finchley
The Issue
A developer has applied for planning permission to Barnet Council to build a 16 storey tower block in the Tally Ho area of North Finchley.
This substantial development is unsuitable both for the people who are expected to live there and for the local community.
The problems with this development:
- Inappropriate scale. The 16 storey block will overwhelm and overshadow surrounding properties
- Bad for families. Only 5 of the 106 flats have 3 bedrooms so there are insufficient family homes. In addition, there is no children's play area for children over the age of 5.
- Air quality. The Tally Ho triangle is one of the most polluted parts of Barnet, regularly exceeding WHO guidelines for safe limits, particularly of nitrous oxides. Such pollution will cause long term health problems for the potential residents.
- No parking. The development has no parking which will put pressure on surrounding streets that don't have the capacity for more car parking.
- Bad for local business. Long established businesses will be destroyed and may not be able to recover to return
In addition, this development poses particular problems for disabled people:
(1) Wind tunnel - The existing wind tunnel effect in the vicinity will be made worse and make it harder for disabled people moving through the area
(2) Insufficient parking - 10 flats in this development will be accessible but ONLY 4 blue badge parking spaces will be available, which may not even be near the flats themselves
The Planning reference is 25/3287/FUL and the address is Balfour House, 741 High Road, London N12 0BP
We, the undersigned object to this development and request that Barnet Council rejects it.
