Stop HGVs from cutting through our streets

HGVs have recently been banned using Fentiman Road as a through road.

We the undersigned petition the Council to deploy immediate and effective traffic calming and deterrent measures on Albert Square, Aldebert Terrace, Dorset Road, Claylands Road, Meadow Road, Trigon Road and in particular to apply a ban on HGV through traffic.

The same deterrent measures should apply to all streets within the boundary of South Lambeth Road, Clapham Road and Harleyford Road, including: Bolney Street, Richborne Terrace, St Stephen's Terrace, Rita Road, Carroun Road, Tradescant Road, Walberswick Street, Oval Place, Heyford Avenue, Heyford Terrace, Old South Lambeth Road, Kibworth Street

These are residential streets, many of them within a conservation area. They house thousands of people, including many small children. Over recent years and especially since the redevelopment of Nine Elms, traffic levels on these streets have become intolerable and dangerous. Both the speed and volume of traffic exceed reasonable limits for these small, residential streets. There is a particular and pressing problem with heavy goods vehicles consistently using the streets road as a rat run.

This is only going to get worse since the Council imposed an HGV ban on Fentiman Road.

We demand the immediate deployment of traffic calming measures and, in particular an HGV ban through Albert Square, Aldebert Terrace, Dorset Road, Claylands Road, Meadow Road, Trigon Road and in particular to apply a ban on HGV through traffic on all streets within the boundary of South Lambeth Road, Clapham Road and Harleyford Road.
