Let Stockton University Students Keep Their Spring Break for Spring 2021 semester!

The Issue

If you have heard the rumors regarding Stockton University's consideration in eliminating Spring Break for Spring 2021, the rumors have been declared true. In fact, the administration is having a meeting 12/9 to officially make the decision on whether or not to eliminate Spring Break for the upcoming semester, with little to no heads up to the student body.

I am currently advocating for the need for this break- declaring it essential and necessary for the mental well being of our community as well as student performance.

After disclosing the detrimental impact that will result from this decision, the administration is continuously neglecting to stand by their students. During these unprecedented times, decisions like these are crucial. In normal circumstances, many students have expressed that they would spend the whole week of Spring Break relaxing. Now throw in the pressures of quarantine, a global pandemic, isolation, sick family members, and AT LEAST 50 hours of screen and this break is needed more this year than it ever has been before.

Ignoring both the statistical and anecdotal evidence provided to them from the Stockton Student Senate, the administration is still proceeding with this decision. With no real substitution planned for spring break, students will be faced with an increased workload, in an isolated environment with no true mental break.

Administration claims they’ve weighed out all the options, but have yet to provide a platform for students to disclose their perspectives on a topic that directly impacts them. This blatant dismissal of student mental wellbeing is unacceptable and quite disappointing.

We are calling for Stockton University to acknowledge that mental health IS HEALTH and that they can not proceed with this decision at the expense of jeopardizing the health of their students.

So here we are, asking for the administration to reevaluate their decision and for you to amplify this concern by endorsing this message to the administration by signing.

There are countless options out there and eliminating this completely necessary break shouldn't and can not be one of them.

The administration is not hearing us clearly, so help us say it louder by signing.
