Stocktonians for a Qualified Senior Policy Advisor to the Mayor
The Issue
Dear honorable members of the City Council of Stockton:
In consideration of the long term health and wellness of our community, we urge you to sign this community letter asking Stockton City Council to not appoint Mr. Rajan Nathaniel as Senior Policy Advisor to the Mayor. Please read the letter and consider adding your name.
As active members of the Stockton community, we applaud the effort of Mayor-elect Kevin Lincoln to elevate new leaders into instrumental positions in our local government. However, after considering the long term health and mounting trajectory of our community, we respectfully object to the nomination of Mr. Rajan Nathaniel to the position of Senior Policy Advisor to the Mayor.
Rajan is a smart, aspiring academic and leader on Stanford University’s campus. However, after close examination and thoughtful analysis of the candidate’s submitted resume and the Senior Policy Advisor job description, we find that Mr. Rajan Nathaniel is not well equipped to serve the Mayor as a Senior Policy Advisor and has not obtained the experience or qualifications necessary to execute principal duties, including:
1) Attainment of Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, public relations or a closely related field from an accredited four year college or university
2) Five years of experience directing a major public information program
3) Assist in the development of Mayor’s policy agenda with senior-level advisement
4) Effectively manage the operations of Mayor’s office
5) Planning our city’s annual budget
Mr. Rajan Nathaniel is a talented leader and an asset to the City of Stockton. However, as he lacks critical qualifications and experience necessary for this role, we urge the City Council to not appoint Mr. Nathaniel to the position of Senior Policy Advisor, and encourage a thorough and exhaustive search for this important position.
Sincerely,
Residents of Stockton
