Uber has created over 1000 jobs in Brisbane and gold coast alone. That's not including admin or any other employees. Uber meets all of the transport dept requirements for operating a new ride sharing service or taxi service. It provides a cheaper, safer alternative to taxi's which currently hold a monopoly over the way in which we choose to get around. Drink driving rates have been cut in the US by 10-20%. The people have spoken we want uber decriminalised and legalised and no longer want our drivers or uber itself subjected to fines. The taxi service is deeply flawed and deemed unsafe by many young Qld women. There is no complaints area and complaints and incidents were left ignored by the taxi companies. Myself included and many other young girls have been subjected to sexual assault, being held against our will, locked in taxis aswell as verbally abused, told to remove our clothing, been dropped off in alleyways, ripped off to the point where the driver is blatantly ignoring your directions and there has been and are no consequences for this behaviour. I no longer feel safe getting in a taxi now. The last 5 years have instilled a deep anxiety in me after working hospitality in the fortitude valley precinct I have seen it all and can no longer get taxis after dark. Protect everyone who uses public transportation and taxi's simply aren't good enough. Uber is. Uber is now legal in ACT SA and NSW so why not here in Qld? Please sign this petition and keep the monopoly away from the taxi companies and keep this safer alternative to transportation. Uber is a success! We want uber!
