Slash and Burn creates air pollution and emits greenhouse gases; which not only aggravates and causes respiratory problems for many people, but also contributes to B.C.'s GHG emissions. In addition the charred remains left in the forest can leach into the ground and can contaminate nearby streams and rivers. Slash does still need to be removed from clear cuts and, but can actually be used rather than wasted in a polluting manner. The larger logs can be used for many purposes while the rest can be mulched, turned into chips, used for fuel, or even turned into methanol (which could be potentially used in vehicles as a biofuel).
