Have Gov Sisolak sign a “Verify Now, Adjudicate Later” Executive Order
The Issue
I’m one of the thousands of Nevadans waiting on PUA benefits that never seem to arrive. Many claims have outstanding issues that may be the result of a glitch, but most likely need to be fixed by one of only 35 Adjudicators assigned to over 60,000 PUA claims. There is no transparency or communication with DETR. You can call all day long and never talk to anyone. Plus the call hangs up on you after 5-7 minutes with no answer.
We have been waiting MONTHS for money we are entitled to. We have rent, bills, etc to pay. We can not continue to wait for money that was guaranteed to us by the Federal Govt with 100% federal funds.
There needs to be a change. And I think there may be a simple automated solution, if implemented correctly, that could help everyone quickly get their benefits.
How?
By requiring DETR to create in the EmployNV Portal, a page called:
“Denial of Regular UI Verification”
It would be a yes or no question where any claimant could, under penalty of perjury, verify that they are indeed:
Ineligible for Regular/Standard UI benefits AND have been denied those benefits.
Under Federal regulations, Nevada must verify that anyone applying for PUA is not eligible for Regular Traditional UI. This would ensure that the state could verify a PUA claim. Benefits could be paid out immediately and any claim could be adjudicated later. The verification could be an automated process where all payments are released once the claimant answers yes to the verification question & the system is updated, which should be within 24-48 hours. And it wouldn’t matter what Outstanding Issues you have, just that the claim is verified. It could also, if necessary, be applied separately to only the $600 per week amount (for all weeks filed so far) to keep WBA & PUA payments separate. Something is better than nothing.
Gov Sisolak, hear us now. If you truly only want what is best for Nevada, you will sign an executive order requiring DETR to implement this online verification option with immediate effect, for the release of all PUA claims payments. With only 35 Adjudicators, the adjudication process could take months. And we sir, just don’t have the time to wait that long. This is a simple solution that could bring thousands of Nevadans the financial relief they so desperately need, NOW.
Do the right thing. Create & sign the executive order. Thank you.
