Save our local M & S in Wokingham from closure

Marks and Spencer Wokingham is a vital asset to our town. Based right in the town centre, unlike other supermarkets on the outskirts of town, it's well used by everyone: the elderly, workers, mums and dads, families. It has easy access for pedestrians, for all those who don't have cars and there are plenty of us! The staff are friendly and approachable, and it carries M & S branding for the things we've all come to love about M & S, from Percy Pigs to those moreish butter mints to quality you can expect. With all the current demolition in Wokingham in Peach St, there is hardly nothing left to make Wokingham a town centre we want to be proud of and visit. Peach St is nearly dead, yet it's a vital thoroughfare in Wokingham. Thousands pass through its one way system every day. Head office argues M & S has a "simply food" mini shop open on Finchampstead rd BUT there is no access for pedestrians, it's on a busy main road with no public transport, and it's out of town. Plus it doesn't hold 25% of the current range as Peach St. store does. Head office also says we can visit the new store they're opening in Bracknell, but why should the people of Wokingham or visitors to Wokingham have to travel to Bracknell? Bracknell is not our town. Besides Wokingham, head office is closing 5 other stores, yet OPENING 36 NEW ONES. Why should Wokingham always be put on the list for closures? Once gone, it will be missed . Please raise awareness, talk to each other, sign this petition and let's get this ridiculous decision reversed. Keep our stores, save our shops, save our LOCAL M & S WOKINGHAM.
