The Issue

In recent days, the Pct. 3 parks division has put up new "Speed Limit 10 mph At All Times" signs through Terry Hershey and George Bush park trails. In recent years, riders have probably noticed more and more signs directed at cyclists.

From reading angry Nextdoor posts, it's apparent some people want to ban cycling from Terry Hershey trail, and this is the first major step in a Pct. 3 park sanctioning all cyclists as a whole. To add insult to injury, Harris County Constable Pct. 5 Deputies are allegedly out enforcing this absurd universal speed limit on cyclists. 10 mph is simply too slow, it damages law enforcement & community relations, and pushes cyclists onto our roadways where the risk of fatal accidents is high.

There are thousands of cyclists that rely on Terry Hershey & George Bush Park trails to commute and exercise. T.H. is the only safe way for cyclists to travel the west-east corridor between Highway 6 and Beltway 8 outside of traffic.

COVID-19 has created a massive demand for cycling/bikes as people are seeking alternative transportation options and a safe alternative to the gym. Tell our elected officials this move is a step in the wrong direction.
