Allow the Wisconsin University system to make COVID-19 decisions independent of lawmakers
Right now, we're still very much in this pandemic, and as such, public health decisions need to be as unbiased and educated as possible. That includes universities, who need to listen to experts (the people who actually know about this stuff), and students and staff (the people whose safety is at risk). Instead of doing it that way, 6 Wisconsin lawmakers have voted that all universities in the state must get their permission to do anything involving masking, vaccines, and testing requirements. We can't stand by and let this happen because:
- 1) It slows down the decision-making process
- 2) These 6 politicians are not scientists and know little about the experiences of students and faculty
- 3) It makes the safety of people at every school a power and political issue
Though University officials aren't perfect, they're so much better equipped to deal with individual school crises than 6 politicians who have an entire state to deal with. For the best interests of everyone, let's get the attention of these lawmakers so we can remove this gross misuse of power.
