DO Something About Gun Violence in Schools in the U.S

Since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012, there have been at least 239 school shootings throughout the U.S. Within that, 438 people were shot and 138 of those people were killed. These are innocent children and faculty that are being shot out of pure hatred. School is a place where our parents should feel safe to send us, where WE should feel safe to go.

I am an 8th grade middle school student and I am sick of hearing in the news that there has been even one school shooting. We shouldn't have to sit back and watch this happen. Let's DO something to show that gun laws need to take effect NOW. The slaughter of innocent children should not and will not be tolerated. In 1996 a gunman opened fire in Australia killing 35 people and wounding 23 more. Australia then passed strict gun laws after this horrific shooting and there has't been a mass shooting since.

I may not be able to help our country out of this horrific problem but as a whole, we can feel like we did something to help and show that we need to make a difference. If we can achieve enough signatures, we can pass this on to Steve Glazer, a member of our California State Senate and focus more attention on the problem of gun violence.  Let's put in place some common sense bans and restrictions on who can buy guns, automatic weapons, high capacity magazines and armour piercing projectiles. We don't have to get rid of the second amendment or impact hunters, but we need to do SOMETHING.
