Stephen Harper: Honour Women's Day and Mother's Day by Funding Positive Maternal Health Initiatives

Despite promises from world governments at global summits led and hosted by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to reduce maternal mortality, death rates among pregnant women remain devastatingly high, especially in the world's poorest regions. In order to reduce maternal mortality rates on a global scale, the Canadian government must fund positive maternal health initiatives that promote innovative and viable options for women and their children. Honour this Women's Day, March 8th, by campaigning until Mother's Day, May 12, for greater federal investment in maternal health initiatives that allow women the freedom to have their children. Start by signing the petition.

We are asking our elected officials to co-sponsor and actively push for key initiatives and programs like those of MaterCare International, a world leader in inexpensive and effective programs that decrease the chance of death for both mother and child before, during, and after pregnancy.

MaterCare International has developed a comprehensive rural health program to support birthing mothers in developing countries around the world. The program covers everything from education to complicated delivery and has been proven to save lives and enrich communities. Sign our petition today, and learn more at www.MaterCare.org.
