Step down Hasina
The Issue
Extremely sad to share the unimaginable situation currently unfolding in #Bangladesh.
The ruling government is brutally suppressing a protest against the quota system in government jobs, which reserves 56% of positions for their own people.
This system is an illegitimate and illogical means to maintain their hold on power. Countless innocent lives, particularly #students, have been murdered leaving behind thousands injured. Internet, mobile, flights, and all forms of communication have been completely shut down by the government.
This morning, I was fortunate enough to speak with my dad, mom, and little sister in #Dhaka. During our conversation, I witnessed the network gradually disconnecting, and since then, I haven't heard back from them or anyone else back home.
This crisis has evolved beyond the issue of quota reform; it is now about overthrowing an autocratic government that has been forcefully in power since 2009. This regime has taken away our voting rights making Bangladesh from a democratic to a fully autocratic nation, caused a massive brain drain, and toyed with the lives of nearly 200 million Bangladeshis, both at home and abroad.
We can't let a young nation like Bangladesh destroy like this. I earnestly call upon all global leaders for #democracy to unite and save Bangladesh from this dire situation.
Sign this petition for the government of Sheikh Hasina to step down and do the quota reform in Bangladesh.
