“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: 'May they prosper who love you.’” — Psalm 122 

Joining together as Christians from the Holy Land and other parts of the world, we express our concern, dismay, and condemnation of Christian Zionist efforts to bring greater suffering and pain to Jerusalem. Any observer of events in the Holy Land today—a region including the State of Israel, the West Bank, occupied East Jerusalem, and Gaza—knows that its peoples are presently enduring great suffering. As Christians, we are called by our Lord to be peacemakers; we therefore condemn Christian Zionist efforts to promote greater war under the false banner of prophecy.

We have seen news of efforts by the Temple Institute, by any measure an extremist organization, aided by extremist Christian Zionists in the United States, to sacrifice what they claim to be a “red heifer” in the coming days. These groups claim that such a sacrifice is necessary to purify a priest who would then be designated “clean” to enter the Holy of Holies of the Jewish Temple.

This plan has many implications. It is part of the Temple Institute’s plans—supported more by Christian Zionists than by fellow Jews—to build the Third Temple. The group’s plans would require the relocation or destruction of Masjid al-Aqsa, including the Dome of the Rock, within the Haram al-Sharif. Such a plan is not only a great affront to the hope of multi-religious coexistence in Jerusalem but an invitation to regional, if not global, warfare. This plan, many years in the making, will transform the Israeli-Palestinian situation from being a political conflict into a religious conflict with no earthly solution.

While filling believers with expectations for the future, prophetic hope also involves temptations. As Jesus says in Matthew 18.7 and Luke 17.1, certain interpretations of God’s will can be stumbling blocks for faith. This is especially true when Christians are convinced that God is so poor that God needs our help to create miracles on earth. We are called to test every spirit (1 John 4.1). It is clear to us that a manufactured, genetically modified heifer intended to promote violence and unrest is no miracle from God.

As religious leaders, we are saddened to see the cynical self-interest at play in the relationship between the Temple Institute and its Christian Zionist supporters. Christian Zionist support for this plan is based on a warped Christian reading of the Scriptures (premillennial dispensationalism) that expects the Third Temple to be desecrated by the Antichrist before the Messiah comes. We understand our Christian faith to teach that Christ alone is our sacrifice, once, for all (2 Corinthians 5.21).

Thus, the Temple Institute and its Christian Zionist supporters have developed a relationship based on mutually instrumentalizing and exploiting one another—precisely the opposite of the human relationships toward which we are called.

In the face of this madness, we call on all persons of goodwill to condemn this plan by the Temple Institute to engage in a sacrifice of a so-called “red heifer.” Actions like this have been attempted in the past but in vain; they accomplish nothing except for escalating hatred, instability, and violence.

We especially call on Christians around the world to lovingly correct and reprove fellow Christians who have been deluded by any form of the imperialist, colonial, and war-promoting ideology of Christian Zionism. It is imperative that we inaugurate a global intra-Christian dialogue focused on the repudiation of Christian Zionism among other forms of the political extremism.

No religion—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam among them—has a monopoly on extremism. It is the responsibility of the faithful first to challenge extremists within their own traditions. Only then can we hope to build bridges with others. Today, the Christian Zionist promotion of further violence alongside what is credibly described as a genocidal assault on the people of Gaza presents an urgent challenge to Christians around the world.

We reject in the strongest terms any effort to make Jerusalem into an apocalyptic playground. The anti-Jewish and anti-Islamic prophetic fantasies promoted by many Christian Zionists view the Holy City as a place of war when God has called it to be a house of peace for all nations.

We call on all persons of goodwill to educate themselves on peacebuilding measures for the peoples of Holy Land.

We affirm the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s continued promotion, protection, and stewardship of the Historic Status Quo of the Holy Sites in Jerusalem, especially in the face of coordinated international threats to this peace-preserving order.

We urge all Christian leaders to consider the messages of the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem as well as messages coming from civil society organizations in the Holy Land that seek to promote human rights, peace based on justice, and wellbeing for all people rather than one group alone.

Promover la paz de Jerusalén: Contra el extremismo sionista cristiano

“Pedid por la paz de Jerusalén; sean prosperados los que te aman” – Salmos 122

 

Como cristianos de Tierra Santa y de otras partes del mundo nos unimos para expresar nuestra preocupación, consternación y condena por los esfuerzos cristianos sionistas para traer más sufrimiento y dolor a Jerusalén. Cualquier observador de los acontecimientos que tienen lugar hoy en Tierra Santa -una región que incluye el Estado de Israel, Cisjordania, la Jerusalén Oriental ocupada y Gaza- sabe que su gente está soportando gran sufrimiento hoy en día. Como cristianos, nuestro Señor nos llama a ser portadores de paz; por lo tanto, condenamos los esfuerzos de los sionistas cristianos por promover una mayor guerra bajo la falsa bandera de la profecía.

 

Hemos visto noticias de los esfuerzos del Instituto del Templo, a todas luces una organización extremista, apoyada por  cristianos sionistas extremistas estadounidenses, para sacrificar lo que ellos afirman que es un "Novillo rojo" en los próximos días. Estos grupos afirman que tal sacrificio es necesario para purificar a un sacerdote que entonces sería designado "limpio" para entrar en lugar santísimo del Templo judío.

 

Este plan tiene muchas implicaciones. Forma parte de los planes del Instituto del Templo -apoyados más por sionistas cristianos que por judíos- para construir el Tercer Templo. Los planes del grupo requerirían la reubicación o destrucción de la mezquita de al-Aqsa, incluyendo la Cúpula de la Roca, dentro del Haram al-Sharif. Este plan no es sólo una amenaza a la esperanza de coexistencia multirreligiosa en Jerusalén, sino una invitación a la guerra regional, y posiblemente mundial. Este plan, que lleva muchos años gestándose, hará que la situación israelí-palestina deje de ser un conflicto político para convertirse en un conflicto religioso sin solución en la tierra.

 

Aunque colme a los creyentes de expectativas para el futuro, la esperanza profética también conlleva tentaciones. Como dice Jesús en Mateo 18,7 y Lucas 17,1, ciertas interpretaciones de la voluntad de Dios pueden ser piedras de tropiezo para la fe. Esto es especialmente cierto cuando los cristianos están convencidos de que Dios es tan pobre que necesita nuestra ayuda para crear milagros en la tierra. Estamos llamados a poner a prueba todo espíritu (1 Juan 4,1). Para nosotros está claro que una novillo fabricado y modificado genéticamente con la intención de promover la violencia y el malestar no es un milagro de Dios.

 

Como líderes religiosos, nos entristece ver el cínico egoísmo que está poniéndose en juego en la relación entre el Instituto del Templo y sus partidarios sionistas cristianos. El apoyo sionista cristiano a este plan se basa en una interpretación deformada de las ecrituras cristianas (premilenialismo dispensacional) que espera que el Tercer Templo sea profanado por el Anticristo antes de que venga el Mesías. Entendemos que nuestra fe cristiana enseña que sólo Cristo es nuestro sacrificio, una vez y para siempre (2 Corintios 5,21).

 

Así, el Instituto del Templo y sus partidarios cristianos sionistas han desarrollado una relación basada en la instrumentalización y explotación mutua, precisamente lo contrario de las relaciones humanas a las que estamos convocados.

 

Ante esta locura, hacemos un llamado a todas las personas de buena voluntad, a condenar este plan para sacrificar el ‘’Novillo rojo’’, que tiene el Instituto del Templo . Acciones como ésta se han intentado en el pasado, pero en vano; no consiguen nada, salvo escalar el odio, la inestabilidad y la violencia.

 

Hacemos un llamado especial a los cristianos de todo el mundo para que, desde el amor,  corrijan y reprendan a sus hermanos cristianos que se han dejado engañar por cualquiera de las formas que toma la ideología sionista cristiana, imperialista, y colonial que promueve la guerra. Es imperativo que inauguremos un diálogo global intra-cristiano centrado en el repudio del sionismo cristiano entre otras formas de extremismo político.

 

Ninguna religión -el judaísmo, el cristianismo y el islam, entre ellas- tiene el monopolio del extremismo. Es responsabilidad de los fieles desafiar primero a los extremistas dentro de sus propias tradiciones. Sólo entonces podremos tender puentes hacia los demás. Actualmente, el sionismo cristiano, por su promoción de la violencia, y lo que se describe de forma creíble como un ataque genocida contra el pueblo de Gaza, presenta un desafío urgente para la comunidad cristiana en todo el mundo.

 

Rechazamos con contundencia cualquier esfuerzo por convertir Jerusalén en un patio de recreo apocalíptico. Las fantasías proféticas anti-judías y anti-islámicas promovidas por muchos sionistas cristianos ven la Ciudad Santa como un lugar de guerra cuando Dios la ha llamado a ser una casa de paz para todas las naciones.

 

Hacemos un llamamiento a todas las personas de buena voluntad para que se eduquen en acciones de construcción de la paz para los pueblos de Tierra Santa.

 

Corroboramos la continua promoción, protección y administración del Status Quo histórico de los Lugares Santos de Jerusalén, a que permanezca en manos del Reino Hachemita de Jordania, especialmente frente a las amenazas internacionales coordinadas contra este orden de preservación de la paz.

 

Instamos a todos los líderes cristianos a que tengan en cuenta los mensajes de los Patriarcas y Líderes de las Iglesias de Jerusalén, así como los mensajes procedentes de las organizaciones de la sociedad civil de Tierra Santa que tratan de promover los derechos humanos, la paz basada en la justicia y el bienestar para todas las personas y no para un solo grupo.

صلوا من أجل سلامة القدس: “ليكن الذين يحبونك ناجحين.” – المزمور 122 
من خلال الانضمام معًا كمسيحيين من الاراضي المقدسة وأجزاء أخرى من العالم، نعرب عن قلقنا وفزعنا وإدانتنا لما تقوم به المسيحية الصهيونية الرامية إلى جلب المزيد من المعاناة والألم إلى القدس. إن أي مراقب للأحداث في الأراضي المقدسة اليوم – وهي منطقة تشمل دولة إسرائيل والضفة الغربية والقدس الشرقية المحتلة وغزة – يعلم أن شعوبها تعاني في الوقت الحاضر من معاناة كبيرة. كمسيحيين، دعانا الرب لنكون صانعي سلام؛ ولذلك فإننا ندين ما تقوم به المسيحية الصهيونية للترويج لحرب أكبر تحت راية النبوة الكاذبة.
لقد رأينا أخبارًا عن جهود يبذلها معهد الهيكل، وهي منظمة متطرفة بكل المقاييس، بمساعدة الصهاينة المسيحيين المتطرفين في الولايات المتحدة، للتضحية بما يزعمون أنه “بقرة حمراء” في الأيام المقبلة. تدعي هذه المجموعات أن مثل هذه الذبيحة ضرورية لتطهير الكاهن الذي سيتم بعد ذلك تعيينه “طاهرًا” لدخول قدس الأقداس في الهيكل اليهودي.

نؤكد على استمرار المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية في وصايتها وتعزيز وحماية وإدارة الوضع الراهن التاريخي للأماكن المقدسة في القدس، وخاصة في مواجهة التهديدات الدولية المنسقة لنظام حفظ السلام هذا. نحث جميع القادة المسيحيين على النظر في رسائل البطاركة ورؤساء الكنائس في القدس وكذلك الرسائل الواردة من منظمات المجتمع المدني في الأراضي المقدسة التي تسعى إلى تعزيز حقوق الإنسان والسلام المبني على العدالة والرفاهية لجميع الناس بدلاً من تعزيز السلام على أساس العدالة والرفاهية لجميع الناس.
