1) With the poor condition the park is in right now (rocks everywhere, asphalt floor very rough and bumpy, ramps have cracks at the bottom) no on skates there, and in-turn it's kinda useless in it's current condition and only attracting graffiti artists, also making the area look bad.

2) Fixing the skatepark will keep skaters off the streets and keep them in the park. Around 111,000 skaters are admitted into a hospitol each year from injuries, and a lot of these injuries are from car accidents and crashing into people on the sidewalk. With skaters off the street, we could prevent pedestrian and car accidents, as well as a lot of property damage.

3) Finally, a clean up would make the city look better. Right now, there is a ton of graffiti which makes the area look unappealing. With a fix up, it would look way better.
