Pass HF 3238/SF 2639 and Stand With Minnesota Women

The Issue

In 2013, the number of domestic violence deaths in Minnesota rose dramatically, nearly doubling 2012 numbers. Many of these deaths could have been prevented by stronger state laws that would keep guns out of the hands of known abusers.

Federal law prohibits domestic abusers subject to protective orders from buying or possessing guns. But Minnesota state law does not—which makes it tough for local law enforcement to ensure that dangerous abusers don’t have guns. This bill, authored by Representative Schoen and Senator Latz will help reduce the number of murders and protect our daughters, mothers and sisters.

Responded
Thanks for writing about the legislation we passed last month to keep guns out of the hands of convicted stalkers and domestic abusers. It was important public safety legislation and I was proud to vote for it and see it become law. It will save lives in our state. Paul
