Grant EHNDA, HB 2856, a Vote in WV House of Delegates
The Issue
As of now, it is perfectly legal to fire someone in West Virginia because they are suspected of being LGBT. Despite the fact that 68% of West Virginians support providing basic employment and housing protections to LGBT West Virginians, we have not seen a single vote in the House of Delegates since the first EHNDA was introduced in the Legislature in 1993. We demand a Judiciary Committee vote AND a full floor vote for House Bill 2856, which would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the WV Human Rights Act. While we want this vote to succeed, we agree that even a losing vote is a step in the right direction. We are tired of inaction and we think it's time for change. That's why we urge House Speaker Tim Miley and Judiciary Chair Tim Manchin to give LGBT West Virginians a fair shot with a simple vote.
