Ban Fracking in NC!

The Issue

Fracking is the process of drilling and pumping millions of gallons of contaminated water into the ground to fracture rocks deep below the earth surface.  This said contaminated water then surfaces and is put into barrels to be transported to an unknown location.  While surfacing this said contaminated water can leak out of the well and pollute the underground water that many of us in NC rely on for our water.  It has also contributed to some of the worst droughts that the US has seen for years in Texas, because of how much water fracking needs to operate.  Fracking has also contributed to air pollution because methane leaks out of the wells, along with the emissions from the trucks and equipment used in the fracking process.  Studies even have found that Fracking has higher emissions due to gas on completing the well and gas returning to the surface with the fracturing fluid.  Finally, Fracking has also been linked to increased seismic activity, and I don't need to mention on how bad earthquakes out here in the east can be.  We defiantly do not need more of them.  On top of that NC only has two major pockets of shale rock and even then compared to out west these pockets would be considered small in comparison.  There have been reports that people have turned their water hoses in there yards into flame throwers because their water was so contaminated from Fracking.  In conclusion, we do not need Fracking here in NC; there are cleaner ways to get energy for the state we live in.
