Please Approve House Bill 7906- Central Coventry New Charter
Please Approve House Bill 7906- Central Coventry New Charter
The Issue
The request for a new Charter for the district of Central Coventry will be put before the General Assembly on Thursday April 3 at 4:00 at the State House. It will need support of the people from Central Coventry.
Due to the insolvency of the Central Coventry Fire Company operating under the old charter -Liquidation of this District's Fire Company was Ordered by Superior Court Judge Sterns. This is still scheduled for May 16.
The Town Council President said that the town is not Financially ready to create a single Municipal Fire Company when the CCFD BOD spoke with him.
The Town Council President with other Fire Districts reviewed if other Coventry Fire Districts could offer the Central Coventry district these services -and they do not have a plan or equipment or funding to do so. They would also need charter changes and voter approval - which the CCFD BOD learned when they spoke with them.
But the Coventry Task Force, a group of Central Coventry Tax Payers have put together a plan to organize a new Fire Company but they need a new charter to do so. If this Charter is approved it can then be reviewed and changed and approved by the Voters so that the Tax Budget will still be managed and approved by the Coventry Tax Payers.
The Coventry Union Legislators suggested we be placed in the Fiscal Stability Act –which would force the Central Coventry Fire District into this plan that has not been successful in Woonsocket. Our Town Council did not endorse that our District be added to this Fiscal Stability Act. The Tax Payer have a plan to organize a new Fire Suppressioin and EMT Rescue Service that can be put in operation if a New Charter is approved.
Please approve this Bill 7906 that will come before you on April 3, 2013 -
