Right now, as-written, South Carolina Code 56-5-6410 states that children over 1 year of age and between 20 and 40 pounds are required to face forward in a car seat. This goes against the NHTSA and AAP recommendations. We need our laws to reflect current recommendations and allow parents who agree with this safety recommendations to put it into practice without any concern over the legality.
