Respect, Fairness, without Retaliation in the Workplace
The Issue
The purpose of this petition is requesting the following ways to improve DVH (Delaware Veterans Home) under the State of Delaware with the following changes to be put in place ASAP:
To be treated RESPECTFULLY; to be heard/listened to WITHOUT FEAR of “retaliation in the workplace”; to be treated with FAIRNESS and RESPECT for ALL DVH staff. To be VALUED and APPRECIATED; to BELONG where Leadership is not only “partnering with and embracing staff” but “building bridges of trust” as a paramount priority, exhibiting this through words AND actions; to be working “along and beside” the staff person as a TEAM player. To recognize the importance of APPRECIATING staff, to “get to know them” as real people outside of DVH and help/work alongside staff at every opportunity in DVH where the motto “happy staff/ happy residents” becomes an everyday goal/motto that is achieved and ensuring EVERY staff person THEY MATTER. To ensure training is complete and accountability is maintained, if actions are not met.
To ensure staff/resident ratio requirements are met EVERY DAY, REQUIRING managers with medical or non-medical qualifications to step up and stay over ensuring “call out coverage”, when situations arise ensuring residents safety/needs are met as a first priority at ALL times.
Secondly, to improve ways of reaching out to ALL staff with “compassion” AND “empathy” during death in family to include/but not limited to utilizing an established fund to provide: mailing a sympathy card from DVH staff, and/or sending a representative within their department to funeral home within the State of Delaware, and/or establish a process to send flowers to their home/or place where funeral services are taking place.
Finally, hiring qualified seasoned/experienced staff/team members, ensuring ALL needs are met; DVH will not only ATTRACT BUT RETAIN their employees minimizing CURRENT turnover problems.
In summary, our veterans “deserve the “absolute best” and NOTHING LESS. In their current environment; change of staff on a regular basis creates in many cases preventable behaviors. This has to stop and the time for us to do better is NOW!
The changes on this petition will improve the overall mental and physical for all staff, reducing sick time and reducing behaviors of residents, “improving quality of life” for ALL. The families of the residents will be happier as well, resting assured ALL is well with their loved one residing with the best care possible.
SOME GAVE ALL…ALL GAVE SOME
We owe it to these GREAT men and women of the military who have served us well; we now need to serve them just as well. Thank you. God Bless.
