Nullify retirement benefits of former Orange County Sheriff Mike Corona

The Issue

Former Orange County Sheriff mike Corona was convicted of one count of jury tampering in 2009, and in 2009 the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in California upheld the conviction. More recently, Mr. Corona's legal counsel petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to appeal his conviction. The appeal was recently denied by the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Corona was also charged with several other crimes while in office as Orange County Sheriff, which lead to his resignation as Sheriff in 2006.

We the undersigned people hereby demand that any and all public officials which are charged with a crime and are found guilty, also forfeit their retirement benefits as they clearly have no regard of the public's interest other than their own.

We undersigned citizens believe public service is meant to serve the public, to ensure that the people receive the full benefit and protection of the government without prejudice, conflict, or illegal conduct. When such conditions arise which would create a conflict, prejudice, or conduct becomes illegal that public servant has a duty to resign their office, as well as any and all benefits derived from that position or office.
