Every year in the state of Alabama & states just like it across the country, the lives of construction & road workers are taken by careless drivers. In 2018 alone there were 123 construction workers killed while doing road work. While working lane closures, paving & striping, sign work, & roadway repair, these men and women’s lives are put at risk while just trying to do their job. The only solution thus far? Scheduling to have a trooper on site, with their blue lights on. This can slow production as you have to sometimes wait on the trooper to become available, as well as it is a waste of taxpayer dollars. As of right now, white & amber lights are the only option, but they are being ignored. Blue lights are the answer. So I urge you to sign this petition allowing construction vehicles to be equipped with blue lights. Only for the purpose of drawing attention to oncoming vehicles. This can be the solution to save innocent lives. These men and women are out improving your commute and shouldn’t be ill equipped when it comes to safety!
