Glow in the dark needles to prevent needlestick injuries

Glow in the dark needles to prevent needlestick injuries
The issue
Im a parent of small children. Everytime i take them to a park i worry about the sandpit. If you are a parent you already know why!
Hundreds of millions of hypodermic needles are distributed annually through needle and syringe programmes for IV Drug users worldwide. (30 million in Australia alone) It only takes one of these needles to be left lying in a playground or on a beach to cause months of anxiety for a parent or the person who stood on it while waiting for blood results to clear them of contracting a blood borne disease like HepC or HIV.
We have developed a syringe that will glow. Glowing needles will not only prevent people stepping on them in the dark, but make it easier for council workers to see them and remove them before our children turn up to play.
Support this petition to have the needles distributed in needle exchange programmes changed to syringes that glow. We will take this petition to Government Health Ministers and State Medical Officers who ultimately decide what syringes to distribute in our community.
