It's not rocket science. More solar panels sitting on houses means less reliance on fossil-fuels in Australia. Are we committed to lowering carbon emissions or not?
Legislate that all newly constructed homes are required to have solar panels to generate a minimum power output. Sure, a house in a forest at the bottom of a valley might be exempt, but for the majority of new housing this should be mandatory.
Not only does this have the obvious environmental benefits of reducing reliance on fossil fuels of those newly constructed houses. It also creates increased economic activity at no cost to the tax payer. In addition, the resultant growth in the solar panel market in Australia will lead to reducing the costs for those wanting to retrofit on existing houses, making it more affordable for everyone.
We don't want to sit back and do nothing and leave a world not worth living in for our grandchildren.
